Dear friend,

Make a Call to Move the
Bill!
Call Assembly Member
Scarborough at (518) 455-4451 and ask him
to move the Assembly bill eliminating the child support
requirement to his committee - where it can be voted on
promptly! |
On March 10th, the New York State
Senate passed a bill eliminating the child support requirement
in order to receive child care
subsidies. Unfortunately, the same bill is
sitting in the wrong committee in the
Assembly—Social Services. It needs to be
moved to the Assembly Children and Families Committee, where it
can be voted on promptly. The child support requirement
currently prevents parents from accessing child care subsidies
if they have not sought child support. You
can help move this bill by calling Assembly Member
Scarborough, Chair of the Children and Families Committee, at
(518) 455-4451 and urging him to
move this bill into his committee and pass it as quickly as
possible. Winning Beginning
NY recognizes that there are many reasons why a parent
might not pursue a support order—including
safety. Children should not suffer because of this
requirement. For more information on this issue, see our letter to Governor Paterson supporting
elimination of the requirement.
Please take a minute and call Assembly
Member Scarborough at (518) 455-4451 TODAY! Then ask
your friends and colleagues to do the same.
Sincerely,
Jenn
