Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Congratulations on your new position and best wishes as you embark on this exciting and challenging opportunity.

During your swearing-in I noted with interest your pride at your son being accepted at The Beacon School and your daughter attending Ithaca College. I am also a supporter of quality education and I would like to express my support for and request your support on early care and education issues in particular.

As a father, I'm sure you're aware that children are born learning and that the first five years of life are perhaps the most important. It is during this period that children develop cognitively, socially, and emotionally. These years set the foundation for a child's success in school and in life.

That's why I am asking for your support of the agenda put forth by Winning Beginning NY, a statewide early care and education coalition. The agenda urges New York State to:

- Increase access to Pre-K - Invest in the early childhood workforce - Increase child care funding - Increase funding for infant/toddler resource centers

These issues are parts of a whole that, together, form a comprehensive early care and education system. My wish is that someday every young child in New York State will have the chance to attend high schools and colleges that their parents speak of with pride. This will only be possible if their early education is of the highest quality.
