Increase child care reimbursement rates

We have a great  opportunity to ensure that $40 million is written into the Texas budget reserved to raise reimbursement rates in workforce areas with the lowest rates in the State.  While this measure won’t benefit every subsidized in Texas, it is a major step in the right direction for this important issue.

Low reimbursement rates make it incredibly difficult for child care providers to raise the quality of their care while serving low-income children.  Please join TECEC in asking Representative Richard Raymond, an important member of the Budget Conference Committee, to work to secure this funding in the Texas budget.

Subject: Please support child care reimbursement rates

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As a key member of the Budget Conference Committee you are in a unique position to impact the quality of child care for low-income children in our great state.

As you may know already, the House Budget bill directs $40 million towards the bottom half of local workforce regions in the state to increase reimbursement rates and improve the quality of care in Texas. I hope that you will raise this point in the Committee, so that this funding remains in the final version of the Texas budget. This targeted investment will increase the quality of care and early education for some of the most at-risk children in the state.

Low reimbursement rates not only diminish the quality of care for low-income children, but they make obtaining child care more difficult for working class families. The most common response to low reimbursement rates by child care providers is to increase fees paid by families of non-subsidized children. A targeted investment in the lowest rates across the state is a great step in the right direction on this issue.

Thank you for your time and for all you do for Texas.

Sincerely,
