Improve the quality of our child care
Time is running out in the 81st Texas Legislature, but advocates for high-quality early care and education still have time to get a lot done!
Currently, Texas has some of the lowest standards in the country for child care professional development. When it comes to increasing the quality of our child care in Texas, SB 1730 is a great step in the right direction.
SB 1730 is very far a long in the process of becoming a law, but we need to move quickly now to get it to the House Floor. Please send the members of the House Committee on Human Services a quick message, asking them to make SB 1730 and high-quality early care and education a priority.

Subject: Please pass SB 1730 out of Human Services
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am a supporter of high-quality early care and education in Texas, and it is important to me that SB 1730 is reported favorably out of the House Committee on Human Services as soon as possible. I hope I can count on your support for SB 1730, authored by Senator Royce West.
Did you know that a cashier at most grocery stores require 20 hours of pre-service training before they begin serving customers, but child care workers are only required to have 8 hours of pre-service training before serving families and children in Texas?
SB 1730 increases the minimum standards for the training of child care professionals in Texas. Currently, Texas has some of the lowest standards in the country for child care professionals. Low standards for our child care workers often translates into low quality child care environments. This bill takes a great step in ensuring that all the families that rely on child care can feel secure that they are leaving their children with a well-trained professional.
As you may know already, this bill makes no fiscal demands on the state of Texas. Supporting this bill means supporting working families and supporting the care of young children. It is important to me that you support the passage of SB 1730.
Thank you for all your efforts and your service to Texas.
Sincerely,
