Tell Congress: Stop Rolling-back Clean Water Protections!
Tell Congress: Restore Clean Water Act Protections for Our Wetlands and Streams For over 30 years, the Clean Water Act has made our nation's waters cleaner and safer by protecting them – and the fish and wildlife that depend on them – from unregulated pollution and destruction. But these protections are under attack. U.S. Supreme Court decisions, along with Bush administration policies, have put at least 20 million acres of wetlands and 60% of our rivers and streams at risk to lose their federal Clean Water protection status. The current situation is so confusing that the Environmental Protection Agency recently revealed it has simply stopped enforcing the Clean Water Act for many rivers and streams, giving polluters free rein to dump into our waters. Tell Congress to stop neglecting our nation's waters and pass the Clean Water Restoration Act now.
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , As your constituent, and a strong supporter of environmental protections, such as the Clean Water Act, I'm deeply concerned about the state of our nation's waterways. Supreme Court Decisions and Bush administration actions are turning back the clock on our nation's clean water progress. Sixty percent of our streams and at least 20 million acres of wetlands are now vulnerable to destruction and pollution. Over 110 million Americans receive drinking water from these, now threatened, waters. Current rules are so confusing that the EPA revealed it has stopped enforcing the law, allowing pollution to go unabated. As my elected official, I am counting on you to stop the current rollbacks to clean, safe water by cosponsoring and voting for the Clean Water Restoration Act. The Clean Water Restoration Act will restore the original scope of the Clean Water Act, a law that has protected our communities and cleaned up our country's waters for over 30 years. I appreciate your support and look forward to working together on continued protection for one of our most valuable natural resources - our water. The Clean Water Act will fail to fulfill its promise of healthy waters if some wetlands, streams and tributaries are left out of its protective scope. As my elected official, I am counting on you to stop the current rollbacks to clean, safe water by cosponsoring and voting for the Clean Water Restoration Act now.
Sincerely, |
