I am writing today to express my hope that you will support the Udall-Platts renewable electricity standard amendment as the House considers energy legislation this week.

It is essential that the House Energy Bill set a Renewable Electricity Standard (RES) of 20% by 2020. After all, twenty-three states have already adopted renewable energy targets as high as 25% by 2020!

The stakes are too high to not support renewable energy standards. If global warming continues, we could face the loss of up to 50% of all species on Earth; more frequent, more intense heat waves like the 2003 tragedy that killed 30,000 people in Western Europe; increased droughts and wildfires, especially in the Western U.S.; and increased flooding in coastal regions as sea levels rise.

I hope that you will vote YES on the Udall-Platts renewable electricity standard amendment.
