Subject: Pass Small Business Health Plans Legislation

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As a small business person I know that the current insurance delivery system does not work for the self-employed and small employers. Quite frankly, it's broken. In the individual market, insurers commonly "cherry pick" only the best risks. In the small group market, the numbers of companies offering coverage are limited, at best.

On March 15, 2006 the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee approved a much amended version of S.1955. I ask that you carefully review the bill, particularly changes made to address concerns you may have had with the bill as introduced. S.1955 represents more than four months of careful discussion and deliberation involving the major stakeholder groups - insurers, insurance commissioners, and the small business community.

Our industry has been told by many of our elected representatives that small business' insurance problems can only be addressed by systemic health care reform and that we just need to wait for that to happen. Unfortunately, we who are self-employed or own small businesses can't wait for major health reform. We need the Senate to take action now and give those of us in small businesses an alternative means of obtaining the affordable health care we all deserve.

S.1955 is good, sound legislation. Please vote YES! for S.1955 when it comes to the Senate floor.

Sincerely,
