Citi: Stop Funding Global Warming
Our planet needs Citi to stop funding global warming and join the rest of the world in creating a healthy, sustainable, clean energy economy. Please join us in convincing Citi to do the right thing.
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , Dear Mr. Prince, We need your leadership right now to get serious about global warming. It's time for Citigroup to adopt a world-class climate protection policy. Today, a year and a half after Hurricane Katrina and amidst irrefutable and overwhelming proof of the threats posed by climate change, America is ready for action. Please don't stand in the way. Citi is arranging financing for Dallas-based utility TXU's proposal to build 11 coal-fired power plants in Texas. At a time when the world is demanding action to confront the global warming crisis, you are helping TXU do more than any other corporation in America to INCREASE its global warming pollution. We need Citi to disassociate itself from this dangerous proposal. No excuses. It's time to shift your company's lending and investment activities towards energy solutions like efficiency, wind and solar power. We know you can do this. In 2004, you led Citigroup to embrace a new standard of environmental ethics that has become a model for the rest of your industry. However, Citigroup cannot consider itself an environmental leader if it continues to ignore the threat that climate change poses to all of us: our economy, our environment, our communities, and our way of life. Please reject TXU's proposal and adopt new standards to fight climate change. Don't let us down.
