Tell Ford to add put plugin cars on the road!
Thank Ford for finally plugging in and ask them to shift into high gear! This week, Ford launched a partnership with Southern California Edison to build and test the first generation of road-ready, consumer-class plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Plug-in hybrids could very well be the key to breaking America's destructive oil addiction by giving consumers a viable alternative to the gas-guzzling cars and trucks currently clogging our roads and polluting our atmosphere. ![]() Until now, automakers have refused to build hybrid cars with a plug, and so if consumers want a plug-in hybrid, they have to buy a regular hybrid and THEN go through the expensive process of having another company convert their hybrid to a plug-in. We applaud Ford's for stepping ahead of Toyota and GM and actually putting PHEVs on the road. While you can't yet walk into your local Ford dealership and buy a plug-in, we are encouraged by what appears to be a sincere effort by Ford and Southern California Edison to chip away at the auto industry's longstanding relationship with Big Oil. Let's get as many people as possible to thank Ford and let them know that the public is clamouring to see plug-in hybrid cars be made available to consumers. Fill out the form to the right to send your letter to Ford CEO, Allan Mullally!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , Thank you for Ford's commitment to put plug-in hybrids on the road. We've been waiting a long time for Ford to offer the next generation of ultra-fuel-efficient, gasoline-optional cars. By plugging in our vehicles, we can dramatically improve our fuel-savings, cut our emissions and spend less time and money at the pump. Now it's time to reaffirm Ford's commitment to the environment and to its customers by taking this commitment to the next level. I can't wait to drive a plug-in vehicle, so please take the next step and make these innovative cars available to all of us as soon as possible.
Sincerely, |

| Background Information |
Since RAN helped save the Electric Ford Rangers in 2005, RAN has been asking Ford to jumpstart its electric vehicle program. This week, we are pleased to recognize that Ford has taken a significant step in that direction.
Ford is teaming up with Southern California Edison to build the first ever road-ready, consumer-class plug-in hybrid electric vehicle. We are pleased to recognize Ford's commitment to test 20 plug-in prototypes as an significant step forward in the movement to demonstrate plug-ins as viable, marketable alternatives to the gas-guzzling cars and trucks currently clogging our roads.
Consumers have been waiting a long time for Ford to offer the next generation of ultra-fuel-efficient, gasoline-optional cars. Plug-in hybrids could very well be the key to breaking America's destructive oil addiction by giving consumers a viable alternative to the gas-guzzling cars and trucks currently clogging our roads and polluting our atmosphere.
The plug-in hybrid, both an environmental solution for the transportation sector and a mechanism for cleaning up the energy sector, has the potential to help the U.S. address approximately two-thirds of its greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, PHEVs make the U.S. Senate?s goal of 35 miles per gallon by 2020 seem painfully conservative.
We are encouraged by what appears to be a sincere effort by Ford and Southern California Edison to chip away at the auto industry?s longstanding relationship with Big Oil. By being the first automaker to put a plug-in hybrid on the road, Ford is leaving its competitors in the dust.
Powering America?s cars by electricity rather than oil will help America kick its oil addiction once and for all. Yet, despite the hope raised by this announcement, plenty of work remains. Utilities must earnestly begin the shift away from dirty coal and toward renewable energy sources. A green grid powered by wind and sun can cleanly recharge car batteries and help tackle our twin crises of oil addiction and global warming.
