Tell Toyota to add plugs to their hybrid cars!
Tell Toyota to follow Google's lead and add plugs to their hybrids! Google has just launched a multi-million dollar investment in plug-in hybrids and technology, but thanks to the foot-dragging of automakers like Toyota, it's almost impossible for anyone who doesn't work at Google to get a plug-in car for themselves.
Automakers have refused to add plugs to their hybrid cars, and so if consumers want a plug-in hybrid, they have to buy a regular hybrid and THEN go through the expensive process of having another company convert their hybrid to a plug-in. This foot-dragging is especially outrageous because Toyota -- supposedly an environmental leader -- is one of the main obstacles to the large-scale manufacture of plug-in cars. It's high time for automakers to hurry up and meet Google in the 21st century by building plug-in hybrids, the best existing solution to gas-powered vehicles. Let's get as many people as possible to let Toyota know that the public is demanding plug-in hybrid cars be made available. Fill out the form to the right to send your letter to Toyota North America CEO, Jim Press!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , You may have heard that Google recently launched an initiative to test and promote a fleet of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. It is disconcerting that an internet company is a step ahead of Toyota, the world's number one automaker, in the realization of this important vehicle technology. America needs Toyota to take concrete steps to address climate change and oil dependence. Consumers expect industry leaders like Toyota to implement the best of what's possible in vehicle innovation, and we have been disappointed by Toyota's silence on plug-in hybrids. Your hybrid vehicles are some of the most fuel-efficient models on the road today, and your company has benefited from its reputation as a green leader. Now it's time to reaffirm Toyota's commitment to the environment and to its customers by taking hybrid technology to the next level. It's time to add a plug to the Prius! By plugging in our vehicles, we can dramatically improve our fuel-savings, cut our emissions and spend less time and money at the pump. I urge you to stop withholding this important vehicle solution from consumers. Please follow Google's lead and give your hybrids a plug.
Sincerely, |

This week the RAN crew is flashing a big "thumbs up" to Google.
Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, has just announced the launch of a 10 million dollar plug-in hybrid electric vehicle initiative (RechargeIT.org) and unveiled the largest solar charging station in the country.
Google's support of the technology is a quantum leap forward in the movement to demonstrate plug-ins as viable, marketable alternatives to the gas-guzzling cars and trucks currently clogging our roads.
The plug-in hybrid, both an environmental solution for the transportation sector and a mechanism for cleaning up the energy sector, has the potential to help the U.S. address approximately two-thirds of its greenhouse gas emissions.
Google is taking concrete steps to tackle the dual crises of oil addiction and climate change with a comprehensive vision for a clean energy future. The company is demonstrating how, by plugging in, we can simultaneously achieve cleaner, cheaper, domestic fuel for our vehicles and green the grid so our cars can run on 100% renewable energy!
The company has pledged $10 million for further development of plug-in technology, and plans to work with advocacy groups to inspire the auto industry to mass-produce these ultra-fuel-efficient vehicles.
It's high time for automakers to hurry up and meet Google in the 21st century by building plug-in hybrids, the best existing solution to gas-powered vehicles.
