Urge Gov. Schwarzenegger to say yes to preschool
The California Legislature heard from you and other preschool advocates across the state and voted to send SB 1629 (Steinberg) and AB 2759 (Jones) to the governor's desk! The Legislature also passed two other key preschool bills: SB 1298 (Simitian and Steinberg), which will create a more seamless P-16 system through the implementation of a common identifier for records from preschool through higher education, and AB 2467 (Brownley), which will develop a system to transfer, with parental permission, preschool information to elementary school.
Now we need your help to make sure these preschool reform bills clear the final hurdle. Write to Gov. Schwarzenegger and urge him to support high-quality preschool by signing SB 1629, AB 2759 and SB 1298.

Subject: Sign SB 1629, AB 2759, SB 1298 and AB 2467
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I urge you to sign four key preschool reform bills that will come before you soon. SB 1629 (Steinberg), the Early Learning Quality Improvement Act, AB 2759 (Jones), the California State Preschool Program Act, SB 1298 (Simitian and Steinberg), the Education Data and Information Act, and AB 2467 (Brownley), Preschool Information Transfer, are all important bills that deserve your support.
SB 1629 would establish a Commission to create an Early Learning Quality Improvement System. The bill will help California build a framework for a high-quality early learning system to ensure future investments prepare our youngest children for success in kindergarten and beyond.
AB 2759 would establish the California State Preschool Program by consolidating all of programs directly administered by the California Department of Education (CDE) that serve preschool-aged children. This bill will maximize efficiency by streamlining how the state administers preschool.
SB 1298 (Simitian and Steinberg), the Education Data and Information Act, would create a more seamless P-16 system through the implementation of a common identifier for records from preschool through higher education. AB 2467 (Brownley) would develop a system to transfer, with parental permission, preschool information to elementary school.
SB 1629, AB 2759, SB 1298 and AB 2467 will lay the groundwork for ensuring California's children have access to high-quality preschool. I urge your support for these important bills.
Thank you for your continued leadership on preschool for California's children.
Sincerely,
