Send a letter to key policymakers on RAND's California Preschool Study
New research from the RAND Corporation finds that many California children – especially those who could benefit most from preschool – don’t have access to the high-quality preschool programs that help prepare them for success in kindergarten. We must ensure that California’s policymakers know how critical high-quality preschool is to our state.
Send your legislators, Gov. Schwarzenegger and other key legislative leaders a letter today encouraging them to include high-quality preschool in the state’s education reform dialogue.
Please personalize this letter by sharing your personal stories about the benefits of pre-k and your perspective on why high-quality preschool is important for your community.

Subject: Preschool for California's Children
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
New research from the RAND Corporation finds that many California children - especially those who could benefit most from preschool - don't have access to the high-quality programs that would prepare them for kindergarten. The report concludes that at best 15 percent of the children who could benefit most are in high-quality preschool programs that prepare them for success in K-12. We are missing out on a key opportunity to invest in children at a time when their brains are rapidly developing.
RAND's finding that preschool quality falls short across the board demonstrates that we need to invest in quality if we want to create the kind of programs that get children ready to learn. California has successful models for providing high-quality preschool, including some that offer financial incentives for preschools to reach higher levels of quality. California must build on these models to create a high-quality early care and education system that helps close our achievement gap.
The growing body of preschool research confirms what advocates and community members like me already know - high-quality preschool is a critical investment in our children and our state.
I know that you're considering important preschool reform legislation right now and encourage you to use this new research as a resource as you take action on preschool-related bills. I hope that you will work with other policymakers to ensure that more children have access to high-quality preschool they need and deserve.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
