Early Learning Challenge Fund

Last week an important piece of legislation was introduced in the House of Representatives that would expand the nation's role in high-quality early care and education by investing $10 billion in early education over the next ten years.

In the coming days, legislators will be marking-up the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act for revisions. Contact your congressmen today and tell them how important the Early Learning Challenge Fund is to you, your state, and the future of our children.

More specific information about the legislation is available in a one-page fact sheet released by the House Education and Labor Committee.

Subject: Early Learning Challenge Fund

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

As part of the Student Aid and Fiscal Responsibility Act, Chairman Miller of the House Education and Labor Committee has filed important legislation on high-quality early care and education. I am writing you today to ask you to support this legislation--The Early Learning Challenge Fund [Title IV in H.R. 3221]. The fund will challenge states to compete for grants that would improve the quality of early care and education through early learning standards, use of data to improve child outcomes, and improved support to parents as well as work to develop a good 'system' of early care and education.

Though Kentucky has a state preschool program in place, a competitive grant would offset state-level cuts and be extremely helpful in building quality and collaboration in our state's preschools. The effort by the federal government to alleviate some of the financial stress on our preschool programs is embraced. I ask you to support the Early Learning Challenge Fund as proposed to ensure a strong national investment in early education for our states and for our children.

Sincerely,
