Greetings,
Thanks to Northstar Corridor supporters like you, Northstar
Commuter Rail trains are only days away from opening their doors
to passengers. Since Northstar supporters have been integral to
the success of the project, we hope you can join us for
Northstar's grand opening.
On Saturday, Nov. 14, Northstar stations at Big Lake, Elk
River, Anoka, Coon Rapids-Riverdale, Fridley and Target Field
(downtown Minneapolis) will host events for the public. Be
among the first to check out Northstar's trains and stations and
learn more about how to ride the line. Each station event also
will include a program with remarks from local officials and key
project supporters. A schedule of events for each station is now
available from Metro Transit.
If you were chosen in our October drawing to ride Northstar
on Nov. 14, please arrive at your assigned station in plenty of
time to exchange your ticket for a boarding pass. Your original
ticket is required to ride. A limited number of free ride
tickets also will be available on Nov. 14 at each suburban
station on a first-come, first-served basis at the event start
time. Remember, no train rides will be available in Minneapolis.
Instead, Target Field Station visitors will have the opportunity
to tour a Northstar train and a limited number of attendees may
receive a free ride coupon good for Northstar travel on Nov.
21.

I hope you will help us celebrate the opening of the
Northstar line. Bring your family and friends on Nov. 14 to meet
Minnesota's new star. I hope to see you on the train.
Exploring the Northstar Corridor: Spotlight on Big
Lake
The Big Lake Station, located south of Highway 10 off of
County Road 43, also is the site of Northstar's Vehicle
Maintenance Facility. The station features public artwork
designed by artist Parker McDonald from Monticello. The City of
Big Lake hosts ice fishing tournaments, the annual Spud Fest and
more. While you're in the area, you can visit the Sherburne
History Center or the Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge, which
encompasses 30,700 acres and offers a variety of conservation
programs and events. Northstar Link Commuter Coach (www.CatchTheLink.com), operated by St. Cloud
Metro Bus, will connect area commuters between St. Cloud and Big
Lake when Northstar service begins. For more information
about Big Lake, visit the City of Big Lake or the Big Lake
Chamber of Commerce.
Sincerely,
Dan Erhart NCDA Chair
