Greetings,
This weekend, the Minnesota Legislature overwhelmingly
approved a bonding bill that includes $60 million for Northstar
Commuter Rail. This was the final state commitment needed for
construction of the state's first commuter rail line. The
Governor is expected to sign the bill into law in the coming
days, which will allow the state to seek federal matching funds
for construction of the Northstar project.
The Northstar Corridor Development Authority (NCDA) will
complete its application to the Federal Transit Administration
(FTA) for a 50 percent federal funding match. The FTA recently
provided encouragement for the project to proceed with final
design and hopes to lock in its funding by this fall.
Northstar's success at the State Capitol is in large part due
to the help of thousands of supporters like you. Thanks for your
support! We're on track for Northstar to begin carrying
passengers in 2009!
