Greetings,

Don't be surprised if you see a Northstar Commuter Rail locomotive rolling down the track! The first of five Northstar locomotives arrived at the Northstar Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Big Lake today. Along the way, it passed by stations under construction at Downtown Minneapolis, Coon Rapids, Anoka, Elk River and Big Lake.

Reaching this milestone brings a new level of excitement for our communities and commuters looking forward to riding the state's first commuter rail line. The train vehicles remind us that the official launch of Northstar service is approaching rapidly - thanks to the continued support of people like you!

See photos of the locomotive passing through the Coon Rapids station.

The locomotives were purchased from Motive Power, Inc. in Boise, Idaho as part of a cost-efficient, joint contract with multiple transit systems across the country. At top speeds of 79 mph, Northstar trains will whisk commuters along 40 miles of existing BNSF Railway train tracks between Big Lake and Minneapolis in about 45 minutes or less.

Keep watching www.mn-GetOnBoard.com and your email inbox for more project updates and information about what you can expect from Northstar Commuter Rail service. I look forward to riding the line with you in late 2009!

Sincerely,

Dan Erhart
