Dear
Friend,
Tomorrow, members of
the City Council will be discussing New York State’s
proposal to permit drilling for natural gas in the heart of
NYC's water supply.
The decision makers
need to hear from YOU.
We invite you
and other concerned New Yorkers to attend this Friday's public
hearing on this subject. Strong hearing turnout is a
visible, effective way we can make sure our leaders and the
media know that New Yorkers have environmental and public health
concerns that must not be ignored. Here's everything you need to
know...
WHO:
You and other concerned New Yorkers
WHAT:
City Council public hearing on the New York State Department of
Environmental Conservation's (DEC) proposal to permit drilling
for natural gas in the watershed that supplies 90% of New York
City's water. This is your chance to speak up on the plan.
WHEN:
Friday, October 23rd, 2009 at 10 a.m. Please arrive at least ten
minutes early to go through security. We want to show strong
interest at the start of the hearing.
WHERE: Council Chambers – City
Hall. City Hall is located in City Hall Park (map). You can enter
the plaza from either the west side of the park at Broadway and
Murray Street or the east side at Park Row.
I hope I'll see you at
the hearing on Friday, but even if you can't make it,
there's still a way you can make a difference.
Before Friday's
meeting, send the
Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) a letter
expressing your own concerns about this risky drilling
plan!
Thank you for helping
us make sure the decision makers know how you feel about
safeguarding our water supply!
Sincerely,
Michael
