Stop identity theft and cyber crime

Last year, more than 8 million Americans became victims of identity theft.  That’s why we need your help to pass our bipartisan cybercrime bill in Congress. This legislation will provide prosecutors with the tools they need to fight identity theft and help victims receive full restitution -- not only compensating them for their direct losses but also for the loss of time and money spent restoring their credit.

Your efforts -- and those of thousands of other concerned citizens -- will make all the difference.

Please email your members of Congress now, urging them to pass this common sense bill that will protect the privacy of all Americans.

Subject: Support the Identity Theft Enforcement and Restitution Act!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Last year, more than 8 million Americans became victims of identity theft. Identity thieves are becoming more aggressive and sophisticated in their tactics online -- and as a result, more victims of identity theft are having trouble obtaining credit, protecting their account balances, securing loans, and getting jobs.

Senators Patrick Leahy, Dick Durbin and Arlen Specter have introduced a bipartisan bill in the Senate to fight cybercrime and provide prosecutors with the tools they need to fight identity theft, particularly on the internet. It will also help victims of identity theft receive full restitution -- not only compensating them for their direct losses but also for the loss of time and money spent restoring their credit.

We can't afford to do nothing while millions more Americans are at risk of becoming the next victims of cybercrime.

I urge you to vote in favor of the Identity Theft Enforcement and Restitution Act of 2007 to protect the privacy of all of us.

Signed,
