Subject: Please support health care reform that is good for kids
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
We cannot wait any longer for health care reform. Health care costs are skyrocketing and employers are cutting or dropping coverage. In the current recession, the impacts on our families are more severe and the urgency is greater than ever. Over one million Pennsylvanians lack insurance, including about 140,000 children.
As your constituent, I want you to know that I support federal health care reform. We have made some very good advances in children's health coverage in Pennsylvania. CHIP and Medicaid are the cornerstones of coverage for many children, enrolling two of every five children in Pennsylvania.
It is important that health care reform proceeds and that it builds upon the gains made for children's health care. I respectfully urge you to support health care reform and to ensure that it:
- Does no harm to children - We need to protect the gains made in children's health care. Before moving any children out of CHIP or Medicaid, we must ensure that children will receive comparable or better benefits, cost-sharing protections and access to care.
- Preserves Medicaid - Medicaid offers a good benefits package that promotes children's healthy development.
- Insures all children - Too many children are uninsured. Eliminating red tape and simplifying enrollment will help insure more children.
- Covers children from head to toe - All children need coverage that meets their developmental needs, and provides them with the preventive services, medical care, and oral and mental health benefits they need to be successful in life.
Thank you
Sincerely,
