I wanted to let you know about an easy way to make your voice heard about an important policy issue for people with disabilities and senior citizens. Medicare was recently expanded to include a prescription drug benefit, but the reforms did little to help people with disabilities and senior citizens access assistive devices such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, and vision technologies.   These technologies are critical for the health and independence of people with disabilities and chronic conditions of all ages, but unfortunately, many policymakers are not aware of how important it is to cover the technologies under Medicare and Medicaid as well as other federal programs and private plans.

The ITEM Coalition website now offers several letter writing campaigns to tell Washington to improve policies on assistive technologies and devices.  Some of the campaigns discuss specific technologies (like wheelchairs) and some address specific programs (like Medicare).

I urge you today to take action on any and all of these issues that are important to you!  Your voice is crucial to the fight to improve access to assistive technologies that people need!
