Tell President Bush: No New Troops
President Bush promised to deliver a new strategy for the war in Iraq. Unfortunately, despite a clear message sent by the American people at the polls last November, the President instead has given us the same old dish of stay-the-course, and, at worst, an escalation that has been cut-and-pasted from the unsuccessful Vietnam War strategy book.
Escalating the use of U.S. troops in a widening civil war in Iraq would take us further in the wrong direction. It would put even more Americans in danger, it goes against the advice of key military commanders on the ground in Iraq, and it would make it more difficult to begin bringing our troops home.
Tell President Bush that the American people oppose sending any more troops to Iraq -- email the White House now!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
Last November, the American people sent a clear message at the polls that we want change in Iraq. Unfortunately, your new plan instead gives us the same old dish of stay-the-course, and, at worst, an escalation that has been cut-and-pasted from the unsuccessful Vietnam War strategy book.
Make no mistake about it, your new "surge" proposal isn't a new strategy -- it's just tweaking the flawed tactics of a failed strategy that the American people have already clearly rejected.
Escalating the use of U.S. troops in a widening civil war in Iraq would take us further in the wrong direction. It would put even more Americans in danger, it goes against the advice of key military commanders on the ground in Iraq, and it would make it more difficult to begin bringing our troops home.
Our armed services, including the National Guard, are already stretched to the breaking point. Beginning to bring them home would begin relieving those pressures on our force structure, as well as on our troops and their families.
I strongly oppose increasing the number of troops in Iraq and urge you to reconsider your new plan for escalating the conflict.
