Subject: Don't Let the Veto Kill SCHIP!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

Please vote for legislation to ensure health coverage for 10 million children.

The President, when he vetoed the first SCHIP bill, insisted that government-funded health care for working families is a bad idea. But he has government-funded health care. And so do our Senators and Representatives.

Is it fair for Bush and his allies to deny children that which they so often take for granted? Not to me, and not to a majority of Americans.

We expect more from our elected officials. The American people want to make sure our children are protected and given basic health coverage that will allow them to grow up healthy and without fear that they can visit the doctor if they get sick.

I urge you to stand up for kids' health. Don't let the President's veto block health care for the children of hard working American families.

Thank you,

Background Information

Thanks to the hard work of millions of activists around the country, the House and Senate have passed legislation to reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP or just plain CHIP) for five years. At the urging of advocates and many Governors, Congress included $35 billion NEW federal dollars so CHIP could reach out and enroll more than 4 million additional uninsured children.

The bill has been vetoed by President Bush, but the fight continues. Millions of kids are counting on us.
