Greetings, June 7, 2006 The House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education & Related Activities met today to work on a spending bill that allocates money for the many programs in the U.S. Departments of Labor, HHS and Education. The Subcommittee recommended that restoring funding for the CDC Epilepsy Program and maintaining level funding maintains level funding for the Epilepsy Program at the Health Resources Services Administration. The National Institutes of Health funding was decreased very slightly from last year. The President's FY 2007 Budget, which was delivered to Capitol Hill in February, proposed elimination of the CDC Epilepsy Program. Epilepsy advocates worked very hard to restore funding by sending emails and letters to their Members of Congress and urging their Members to sign a Dear Colleague letter to the Subcommittee Chairmen of the House and Senate requesting restoration of the CDC Epilepsy Program. In a year when budgets are very tight and funding resources are limited, restoration of the CDC funding at $7.684 million and holding the line on the HRSA and NIH funding is a very good outcome. The bill will next move to full committee and then the House floor for final approval. Tell-A-Friend | Unsubscribe | Not a member? Sign Up! Copyright 2004 Epilepsy Foundation. All Rights Reserved. |
