Greetings,

What’s Happening with the new Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit?

The Epilepsy Foundation has been working with the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services about the implementation for each phase of the new prescription drug benefit mandated by the Medicare Modernization Act. This is the second part in our weekly Medicare updates with information about the Medicare prescription drug benefit.

Training on New Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit Available Online

On May 19, 2005 a one hour internet training entitled The New Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit: A Free Training for Community-Based Organizations was broadcast for live, interactive viewing.

The original broadcast featured speakers such as Dr. Mark McClellan, Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services Administrator, as well as other experts from the Social Security Administration and consultants in the health policy field. Viewers were provided an overview on the new Medicare Prescription Drug coverage and the extra help available for Medicare beneficiaries with limited income and resources.

The program explained the time frames for applying for the extra help and selecting a plan during the initial enrollment period. Pfizer, Inc. and the American Society on Aging (ASA), co-sponsored the training.

It is now available to view as an archive at http://www.publicconnect.com/medicareeducation.
