Save Epilepsy Funding in CT State Budget!
Please contact your Connecticut state legislators today and urge them to restore our $54,669 in funding, which was eliminated from the Department of Social Services budget. The committees are meeting now to finalize the state budget.
Tell them these funds were used to provide information, education and support to an estimated 45,000 people in Connecticut who have epilepsy. More importantly, tell them your story - how epilepsy has impacted your life and how the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut has helped you understand, manage and cope successfully with it.
You can use the following points you can make when you talk to or email your state legislators:
- Epilepsy is the third most common neurological disorder in the U.S. affecting more people than cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and parkinson's disease combined.
- Of major chronic medical conditions, epilepsy is among the least understood even though one in three adults knows someone with the disorder.
- Epilepsy is prevalent among other disability groups such as autism(25.5.%), cerebral palsy(13%), Down's syndrome(13.6%), and mental retardation(25.5%). For people with both cerebral palsy and mental retardation, the prevalence is 40%.
Thank you for taking the time to help with this.
