Combining the energy of local school advocates with the power of a statewide grassroots network

November 15, 2007

Greetings,

Simple Majority Declares Victory!

Congratulations!

Thank you.  Together we have achieved a great victory for the one million public school children in our state.

The approval of EHJR 4204, Simple Majority for School Levies, is an important step forward for our public education system.

We knew all along this would be a close election.  It took every single one of you to approve 4204.

Our victory is largely due to the incredible grassroots effort in communities across the state.  More than 350,000 phone calls were made by over 6,000 volunteers to get out the vote for schools.  The late surge in approval votes is a testament to the success of your efforts.  This is why 4204 is passing with 50.48 percent today.

A coalition of 250 organizations representing educators, parents, principals, superintendents, labor and business leaders as well as thousands of individuals raised nearly $3 million.

This remarkable pro-education coalition is strong and energized.  The League of Education Voters will continue to work together with our coalition partners to ensure the Legislature provides adequate and stable funding for Washington’s public schools.

Thank you for your support of public schools.  Please stay tuned as we gear up for the 2008 Legislative Session and report on the work of the Basic Education Finance Taskforce.
