Protect preschool funding.
The proposed state budget would cut back NJ FamilyCare eligibility for parents from 200 percent of the federal poverty level to 150 percent. This works against the state's goal of getting more children covered by health insurance! Research shows that parents enrolled in health insurance programs are more likely to enroll children.
New Jersey's state-supported preschool program is a huge success and a national model. Children who spend two years in this high-quality program make substantial improvements in language, literacy and math. Supporting high-quality preschool is one of the smartest investments New Jersey can make for its future prosperity.
Please work to protect children and to build a strong foundation for our state's future.
