Please make your voice heard to support preschool in the state budget
In this tight budget year, it is critical to make our voices heard on the importance of high-quality, state-supported preschool for New Jersey children. Please contact the governor, state education commissioner and your representatives in the Legislature today!
Dear [ Decision Maker ] , As the state works toward a final state budget for 2010, I am asking that you work to preserve proposed funding for a program that has benefitted tens of thousands of New Jersey children. Specifically, I am asking that you support the proposed $52.3 million increase in aid for existing preschool programs and the $25 million in Preschool Incentive Aid for expansion of this highly successful program to more children. New Jersey?s expansion of high-quality, state-supported preschool builds on the great success of its existing program. A recent study found that children who attend Abbott preschools showed significant improvement in language, literacy and math. State test scores have also shown that preschool leads to greater school success: In 2007, Abbott district 4th-graders, who were among the first to benefit from two years of preschool, posted substantially higher scores in math and language arts than 4th graders in 2003. High-quality early education lays the foundation for children to succeed in school and become productive adults who contribute to New Jersey?s future prosperity. As a program that benefits children, their communities and the state, it is one of the smartest investments that New Jersey can make.
Sincerely, |
