They say you always learn who your true friends are when you go through the tough times in life. That's as true in the Senate as it is anywhere else.

Well through thick and through thin, there's one person I know I can always count on to stand with me and fight the good fight — on Iraq, on civil rights, on climate change, on healthcare, and more: Senator Barbara Boxer.

Now Barbara needs our help. She's going to have a tough re-election battle on her hands in 2010. Former HP CEO Carly Fiorina is expected to jump into the Republican primary any day now, and she's got millions of dollars of her own personal wealth to pour into the race.

It's time for us to stand with Barbara.

Barbara Boxer and I came to Washington, DC the same year. We both were elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982 and took our oaths of office on a cold January day in 1983.

Now, 26 years later, we are still proudly serving together, representing California and Illinois in the U.S. Senate. Barbara Boxer is a Senator who takes a stand on tough issues and fights for her principles. Together, we were 2 of only 23 U.S. Senators to vote against going to war in Iraq. We need her passion, her energy, and her voice in Washington.

Barbara is also one of my closest friends in the Senate. I couldn't imagine being here without her.

So now, with the June 30th fundraising deadline rapidly approaching, Barbara needs all of us to stand with her and show our support — so she can show Carly Fiorina and all the pundits that she's ready for whatever her right-wing opponents throw at her in 2010.
