With President Bush threatening to veto legislation to cover millions of uninsured children, congregations in PICO are holding Compassion Sunday/Sabbath events across the country this weekend to encourage people of faith to make their voices heard on the need to provide hope to uninsured children. PICO has set up a toll free number (877) 367-5235 for people to call their Members of Congress to support a strong $50 billion Reauthorization of the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). Last week PICO wrote the President urging him to pull back from his veto threat, and asked Congress to move forward on the commitment in the budget to provide $50 billion to strengthen and expand SCHIP to reach millions of uninsured children.
