Former Rep. Bob Schaffer Needs to Support Reform

Then-Rep. Bob Schaffer took a $13,000 junket to the Northern Mariana Islands, paid by a front group for convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff in 1999. After he returned he raised close to $10,000 from factory owners and politicians on the islands, and defended the awful sweatshop conditions in garment factories there. It's time he was held accountable for these despicable actions.

Bob Schaffer should apologize for his actions and sign the Voters First Pledge to show voters he supports public financing of elections and an end to pay-to-play politics in Washington.

Full Petition Text:

I demand that Schaffer support legislation to end the abuses once and for all on the Northern Mariana Islands and give 5% of his campaign contributions to charities aiding the workers there.

I also urge Schaffer to sign the Voters First Pledge to support public financing of federal elections so that our elected officials are no longer dependent on private contributions, whether they come from Denver, Washington, DC or the Northern Mariana Islands
