Mission

 

The Colorado Consumer Health Initiative (CCHI) is a member-based nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to ensuring barrier-free access to quality, affordable healthcare for all Coloradans.  CCHI brings together a unified statewide voice for healthcare reform, engaging, educating, and empowering consumers and advocacy organizations to identify solutions that overcome barriers to healthcare.  CCHI pursues healthcare advocacy through policy, legislation, outreach, education, and organizing with consumers and allies throughout Colorado.

 

Position Description

 

CCHI staff work closely in a team environment to carry out the mission and goals of the organization.  The Development Director is part of a growing nonprofit organization based in Denver with a budget of approximately $550,000 and 8.0 FTE.  CCHI’s development program is entering a period of expansion, transitioning from a primarily grants-based funding stream to a comprehensive and diverse base of revenue including events, individual donor development, and earned income.  The Development Director will be  primarily responsible for all fundraising activities in partnership with and support from the Executive Director.

 

Positions Responsibilities

 

Essential duties of the Development Director include:

·         With Executive Director and Development Committee, develop and implement annual and long range fundraising plans to meet organizational budget.

·         Work with staff to integrate fundraising into all aspects of CCHI’s work. 

·         Represent CCHI at relevant public events.

·         Ensure active and ethical stewardship of all funding categories.

 

Specific areas of responsibility include:

 

Grants

·         Supervise part-time grant writer, ensuring submission of quality grant proposals on deadline for foundations.

·         Prepare evaluations and reports of fundraising activities and organizational accomplishments for funders, CCHI board of directors, and the community.

·         Research local, state, and national funding opportunities.

·         Develop and maintain relationships with new and existing foundations.

 

Donor and External Relations

·         Develop and manage individual fundraising program, including direct mail and e-giving strategies.

·         Support Executive Director in development and management of major donor program.

·         With the Communications Director, develop, edit, and write public relations tools, including website, e-newsletters, donor newsletter, annual report, and brochures.

·         Coordinate and oversee CCHI membership and participation in Community Shares.

 

Events

·         Plan and execute annual fall event using the Benevon? model.

·         Coordinate additional periodic fundraising/outreach events during the year.

·         Develop  and coordinate Point of Entry events using the Benevon model

 

Operations/Organizational

·         Staff the CCHI Board Development Committee.  Develop and maintain a fundraising calendar that is integrated with other CCHI activities and events.

·         Manage and maintain donor component of organizational database, including reporting, gift processing, donor histories etc.  Coordinate use and maintenance of database with membership and advocacy components.

·         Attend and participate in staff trainings, weekly staff meetings, and other staff activities as appropriate; contribute to overall organizational strategic planning and development.

·         Provide leadership and direction to other staff for development projects. 

·         Provide support and assistance to production of marketing materials and website maintenance as needed. 

 

Qualifications

 

Required Skills and Experience  

·         Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.

·         Minimum 3 years varied professional development experience.

·         Impeccable verbal and written communication skills, both persuasive and analytical.

·         Comfortable with public speaking before diverse groups and in social settings.

·         Ability to create, implement, and monitor complex plans and meet timelines.

·         Experience with donor databases.

·         Initiative, positive energy, outgoing nature and capacity to enjoy meeting challenges and deadlines.

·         Understanding of and/or willingness to learn and comply with basic professional fundraising ethics and principles, as defined by the Association of Professional Fundraisers;

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

·         Interest in issues of healthcare access, advocacy, and policy.

·         Knowledge of local, state, and national funding communities.

·         Organizational and nonprofit skills, supervisory experience.

·         Understanding of basic marketing skills and strategies; ability to assess audience and external environment.

·         Experience with desktop publishing and/or website design and maintenance.

 

This position requires some evening and weekend hours.  Some in-state travel is required.

 

Compensation and Benefits

 

The Development Director is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the executive director.  Salary range is $43,000 – $48,000, depending on qualifications and experience.  CCHI provides full benefits (health, dental, disability) and a competitive leave package
