In this time of economic stress, nothing is more important to parents who are working multiple jobs or looking for work than knowing their children are in a safe and mentally stimulating environment.  That's why the Children's Institute and Oregon's Ready for School campaign are working hard to support state funding for Head Start and Early Head Start.

Head Start and Early Head Start are two high-quality early education programs proven to help close the achievement gap between children in poverty and their more affluent peers.  Yet only a fraction of the children in Oregon who are eligible for these programs have access due to funding shortfalls.  These children are at great risk of school failure, and they can't wait for the economy to rebound.
