Dear Advocate,
By a strong bipartisan vote of 67-29, the Senate voted last
Thursday to renew the Children’s Health Insurance Program
(CHIP) and provide health care for 10 million low-income
children. This followed a dramatic 265-159 vote in the House
last Tuesday—which included a stunning 44 Representatives
who switched their votes to support CHIP after previously voting
against it! Thank you!
Unfortunately, the President continually repeats his pledge
to veto the legislation. And while we’re still about two
dozen votes shy of the amount needed to overturn a Presidential
veto, the House vote represents dramatic progress and reveals
the extent that allies of the President are deserting him in
face of relentless grassroots pressure.
What You Can Do
Tell your legislators how you feel about their vote. Click on
the following links to find out how your Senators
and Representative
voted on the bill. - If they voted FOR
children’s health, call them and thank them. And ask them
to vote to overturn the veto. - If they voted AGAINST
children’s health, make sure they know how unhappy you are
with that vote. Urge them to change their vote and to support
the override.
Call
1-800-828-0498 to speak to your Senators and your
Representative.
Congratulations! Your efforts have produced remarkable
victories for kids' health care. Veto or no veto, we will win
this battle!
Again, thank you!
