Tell Your Senators and Representative: Support Children's Health

The House and Senate will vote soon to renew the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and determine the fate of health care for millions of kids in this country.

Members of Congress need to hear from as many of their constituents as possible. Every one has a voice in the process.

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

On behalf of millions of America's children, I strongly urge you to vote to reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) and oppose attempts to weaken the legislation by reducing the number of eligible children.

America's children deserve the chance for a healthy start in life. Without health coverage, children forgo the regular checkups and doctor visits that every child needs. Too often this leads to needless suffering from avoidable complications and costly trips to the emergency room that strain our health care system. Underscoring the stakes for millions of kids, a recent study found that uninsured children admitted to the hospital for injuries were twice as likely to die as their insured counterparts.

SCHIP reauthorization can answer the prayers of millions of parents and improve the potential of millions of children, but it goes beyond that. We all benefit from a generation of healthy kids.

I care deeply about the health of our children, as you do. Please join me in coming together for our kids by voting for children's health and against efforts to weaken SCHIP.

Sincerely,

Background Information

Earlier this year, thanks to the hard work of millions of activists around the country, the House and Senate budgeted $50 billion NEW dollars for children's health. Now we have to make sure Congress follows through on their promise.

More than 9 million children in America are uninsured and can't get access to the regular checkups and care every child needs. The SCHIP bill before Congress can change that and make a world of difference for millions of kids!
