You did it! Now make sure the veto stands
After a huge public outcry from Kansans like you, Governor Sebelius vetoed the milk labeling bill yesterday! This is great news, and we'd like to thank everyone who has taken action to make this happen. But we may not be done yet!
As you all know, the vetoed legislation would have harmed consumers and watered down existing national labeling rules by requiring a misleading disclaimer on all rBGH-free labels. Kansans like you want to know if their milk comes from cows injected with artificial hormones, and yesterday's veto was a huge victory.
BUT, the state legislature can still override her veto if they can get two thirds of the legislature to vote for the milk labeling bill. Governor Sebelius stood up for consumers yesterday. Please take a minute to ask the state legislature to uphold her decision!

Subject: Uphold veto of HB 2121
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
As a Kansan, I am writing to urge you to please sustain the veto on HB 2121. The vetoed legislation would have harmed consumers and watered down existing national labeling rules by requiring a misleading disclaimer on all rBGH-free labels. Kansans like you want to know if their milk comes from cows injected with artificial hormones. I strongly oppose this bill and applaud Governor Sebelius for vetoing it.
HB 2121 is bad for consumers - it makes it harder to provide clear information on the label.
HB 2121 is bad for businesses - it will increase their costs in a very difficult economy.
HB 2121 is bad for farmers - it could restrict their ability to inform consumers about being rBGH-free, especially if there is a patchwork of state rules that ends up forcing businesses and farmers to stop any kind of rBGH-free labeling.
I am a Kansas consumer and I am NOT confused by these labels! On the contrary, like almost all consumers who are aware of this bill, I oppose it. Please sustain the veto on HB 2121, it's the right choice for Kansas farmers, businesses, and consumers.
Sincerely,
|
