The short explanation of this alert was:
URGE YOUR REPRESENTATIVE TO VOTE YES ON THE WOOLSEY AMENDMENT

This afternoon AFSC learned that House Rules Committee has allowed Rep. Lynne Woolsey to offer an amendment on Iraq to the Defense Authorization Bill (H.R. 1815 - the National Defense Authorization Act for FY06).

Woolsey's Amendment is calling for the President to develop a plan for the withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Iraq and submit a plan to the Congressional Defense Committees. The amendment will be voted on the House floor this evening, Wednesday, May 25th, during debate of the Defense Authorization Bill.

If the Woolsey amendment is adopted, it will open congressional debate about Iraq and how to move towards total Iraqi sovereignty and U.S. withdrawal. It is urgent that you help move this debate forward by calling your representative TODAY and urging him or her to vote YES on the Woolsey amendment.

The American Friends Service Committee seeks the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq and the restoration of full Iraqi sovereignty. The full AFSC Board statement can be found at: http://www.afsc.org/iraq/guide/board-statement.htm
