The short explanation of this alert was:

Urge President Obama to Welcome Refugees
Right now thousands of refugees are unable to rebuild their lives in safety and dignity in the United States due to inadequate support in this country.

Like many Iraqi refugees, 26-year-old Murtaja Kamal Aldeen received death threats for working and associating with Americans in Baghdad. After he fled Iraq with his family, he was granted sanctuary in the United States through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. "We lost everything," he says.

Today he is struggling to make ends meet as he builds a new life in California and waits for the rest of his family to join him. "Sometimes I lie awake at night and pretend they are here, safe with me," says Murtaja.

Please sign this petition calling on President Obama and Secretary Clinton to modernize the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program and increase funding to welcome and assist Iraqi refugees and others who are fleeing persecution and violence.
