It's time to act on MTA Chair nominee Jay Walder

Tell your state senator that our public transit system needs improvement and the sooner Jay Walder's nomination as MTA Chair is reviewed and acted upon, the better!

With a strong background in public transportation, Jay Walder could be just the person to fix our transportation system and prepare it for even more riders.

Millions of New Yorkers rely on the MTA's subway, buses and trains. In the coming years, New York’s population will increase by another million. To handle those additional riders, New York will need a transit system that not only increases capacity and reaches now underserved communities, but contributes to growing our economy and improving our environment.

Help make sure the process of approving a new MTA Chair is not delayed and that your state senator knows that it's essential for NYC's economic and environmental sustainability to begin work now to improve our public transit system for the long term.

As a New Yorker who recognizes how important the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is to a vibrant and healthy New York, I'm writing to ask you to review MTA Chair nominee Jay Walder's qualifications and act on his appointment in a timely fashion - because taking action to improve our public transit system should not wait one more day than necessary. Like me, I'm sure you appreciate the importance of the MTA not just to its riders, but to the streets, neighborhoods, businesses, and environment of New York.  Our buses, trains and subway are the lifeblood of our region and must be a top priority.

The MTA's subway, bus and rail routes move millions of people every day, and they are vital to New York's long-term sustainability.  In the coming years, even more riders will turn to the MTA's subway, buses and trains, and we need a system that is ready for them.

I hope that you will review Chair nominee Jay Walder's nomination and take appropriate action in short order so that we have a team in place to begin the work of expanding and improving our public transportation system as soon as possible.  New York needs a transit system that increases capacity and reaches now underserved communities, helps grow our economy and improves our environment.

Boosting subway, bus and rail capacity should also be a part of cutting down on traffic congestion. An improved transportation system can move more people faster, while simultaneously reducing pollution and improving access to our city's neighborhoods and businesses.

In the coming years -- and in the coming decades -- a bigger and better public transportation system will become ever more vital to New York.  I sincerely hope you and your colleagues will act swiftly on this nomination and the other actions necessary to ensure an improved transit network will help keep New York a great place to live and work.
