Verizon: Hang Up on Climate Change Denial Rally
For a self-described eco-friendly company, Verizon Wireless has strange bedfellows. Recently, they decided to co-sponsor a pro-coal Labor Day rally in West Virginia that promotes mountaintop removal, global warming denial and union-busting. The "Friends of America" rally, is organized by leading belligerent coal company Massey Energy.
- Massey's CEO Don Blankenship is a well known anti-environmentalist.
- Don Blackenship is a force behind mountaintop removal in Appalachia.
- Verizon's purported green values are in conflict with those of Blankenship and Massey.
