Tell Toyota to Quit the Chamber of Commerce

Toyota has built a reputation for being the "green" producer of hybrid cars like the Prius. But right now, the Chamber of Commerce – funded by member companies like Toyota – is launching an outrageous campaign to kill the climate change bill. Other major companies have already resigned the Chamber in protest, but so far Toyota has refused to act.

That's where you come in: The Chamber may be funded by companies like Toyota. But Toyota is funded by customers like YOU.

Full Petition Text:

I am deeply disturbed that Toyota has refused to quit the Chamber of Commerce despite its backwards campaign to defeat the Senate's new climate change bill.

Toyota has long been a leader in producing fuel-efficient cars like the Prius, and many of your customers have been loyal to your brand because of that commitment.

Your statement that Toyota's "association with [the Chamber] does not signify that we agree with all of their policies. It means we are there to have a dialogue and engage in making good policy" is disappointing. This is hardly what I would expect from a company that has built an image as a leader in "green" technology.

The Chamber of Commerce is funded by member companies like Toyota, and could not run such a large campaign against the climate change bill without your support.

I have noticed that many other major corporations (including Apple, Nike, GE, PG&E, and Johnson & Johnson) have quit the Chamber in protest of this ridiculous and dangerous efforts to block clean energy.

For the sake of the planet and your reputation, I hope you will reconsider your stance and resign your membership in the Chamber of Commerce immediately.

Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
