I just heard about new regulations that could be the biggest single step the U.S. has ever taken to curb global warming and save oil.

Here's the good news: The Obama administration has proposed a groundbreaking new "clean car" standard that would require American vehicles to average 34.1 mpg...

...But the bad news is there are still loopholes in this rule that would let automakers dodge the new regulations instead of meeting them.

That's why I'm hoping you can help. From today until next Friday (Nov. 27th), the EPA and the DOT are accepting comments from the public. I just sent my own comment, but we need more people to speak up if we want to close the loopholes and really start to fight global warming.

It's hard to overstate what's at stake here: To avoid climate catastrophe, greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. must peak in the coming decade, decline steadily, and reach a level close to zero by mid-century.

Reducing vehicle emissions with a truly strong new standard for American cars and light trucks is one of the most effective ways we could make that happen.
