Tell Calvin Klein, Coach, and Marc Jacobs to Follow Gucci's Lead and Stop Bagging Indonesia's Rainforests

Indonesia's rainforests are world-renowned for their social and ecological value. They comprise some of the most biodiverse forests on the planet and are home to millions of Indigenous people. They are also key to reigning in climate change but are currently being cut down at an unprecedented rate. Due to massive emissions from this tropical deforestation and peat land drainage and destruction, Indonesia has become the world's third largest greenhouse gas emitter, after China and the U.S.

The pulp and paper industry is one of the primary drivers of deforestation in Indonesia, and global fashion companies like Calvin Klein, Coach, and Marc Jacobs are helping to drive the loss of Indonesia's rainforests. Our research indicates that these companies are buying bags from Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) and its affiliates. APP is the biggest Indonesian rainforest destroyer for paper and is responsible for past and ongoing clearing and converting of vast areas of rainforests and peat lands in Sumatra and Borneo.

Despite these challenges, there is good news for Indonesia's rainforests. The prestigious conglomerate of fashion and luxury brands Gucci Group recently decided to eliminate all paper made from Indonesian rainforests and plantations and by controversial suppliers, notably Asia Pulp and Paper, as a first step in implementing an industry-leading paper policy. If Gucci Group can do it, Calvin Klein, Coach, and Marc Jacobs can, too.

Send a message today to Calvin Klein, Coach, and Marc Jacobs to demand that they follow Gucci Group's lead and stop bagging Indonesia's rainforests by cutting ties with APP and its affiliates immediately and implementing a leadership paper policy.
