Rep. James Sensenbrenner is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee and has refused to consider legislation that would exempt victims of Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters from parts of the new bankruptcy law. It should come as no surprise that Sensenbrenner was one of 11 members of Congress -- out of 435 -- to vote against providing $52 billion in aid to the relief efforts.
It gets worse. According to his own financial disclosure forms, Sensenbrenner owns nearly a quarter million dollars in bank and credit card company stocks. He also received $92,117 in PAC and individual contributions ($200+) since 1989 from the banking and finance/credit card industry. And, Sensenbrenner is actively trying to protect companies from liability in the clean up and relief effort, while he turns a blind eye to the plight of thousands of peope who have lost everything.
