The status of cable TV competition in the Village of Pelham, NY

After eight months of negotiations with the Village of Pelham, talks have reached an impasse. Consequently Verizon has withdrawn its cable franchise application to serve the Village with FiOS TV.

The parties were successful in reaching an overall framework for the franchise. However, while Verizon has accepted many of the additional terms that Pelham requested over the course of the discussions, the Village has asked Verizon to agree to certain financial terms that are detrimental to our ability to serve our FiOS TV customers, to deliver value to our shareholders, and to effectively compete in the marketplace.

Verizon wants to offer FiOS TV service to the residents of Pelham. For now, however, 3,000 homes in the Village will have to wait for true cable choice and competition.
