I am writing to ask you to promote and protect the Earned Income Tax Credit, which rewards hard-working families.

Recent census data show that while the wealthiest Americans have increased their income, the national median income has stayed flat and poverty has grown while increasing numbers of families have a negative savings rate. This means that workng families are finding it increasingly difficult to achieve the American Dream.  We need Congress to ensure that the tax system helps families moving into the middle class.

Each year, the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) brings back critical tax refunds to the working families in our community. As a tax preparation/asset building professional, I have witnessed first-hand the challenges working families face in the tax process, as well as the positive impact of tax credits such as the EITC.

The EITC makes it possible for families to:

*Move from expensive rental housing to lower cost home ownership

*Purchase a used car to commute to better jobs

*Attend a local college or university as they seek to improve their skills

*Stay current with home mortgage payments and avoid foreclosure

*Pay utility bills to avoid being disconnected

The EITC has bipartisan support as well as strong support from the business community, as most EITC dollars are spent locally.
