The fight against mountaintop removal (MTR) is heating up! This week, two courageous activists have ascended 80-foot tall trees to begin a 'tree sit' to stop Massey Energy's mountaintop removal operations above the Coal River Valley in southern West Virginia. The tree sit is the 13th in a series of peaceful direct actions in Appalachia this year as coalfield residents continue the call for federal officials to stop this horrible practice.
We need you to help promote the fight against these permits. Please write a letter to the media outlets carrying the tree sit story and inform them that the actions today reflect a bigger fight against 86 new permits on the horizon.
