DefCon: Campaign to Defend The Constitution. Because The Religious Right Is Wrong
During our stem cell campaign, DefCon America ran two full page ads in the New York Times in May and June. Click here to see the ad from May. Click here to see the ad from June.

We also released our first video on YouTube featuring DefCon advisory board member and former NARAL head Kate Michelman's incredible story and by doing all we could to empower the millions of Americans for whom we are fighting. Click here to view the video.

To be sure, the fight for health and hope is not over. In the coming months, this fight will move to the states, where citizens are tired of waiting for a misguided President to do the right thing and have taken the issue into their own hands. Stay tuned to the DefCon Blog for updates.

We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit Campaign to Defend the Constitution.

The short explanation of this alert was:

Demand the President talk about Harriet Miers' legal credentials, not her religious beliefs.  In defending his nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, George Bush said: "People are interested to know why I picked Harriet Miers. ... They want to know as much as they possibly can before they form opinions. And part of Harriet Miers' life is her religion."

In recent days, reports have made it clear that Karl Rove gave special notice to James Dobson and possibly to other leaders of the religious right in advance of the Miers announcement.  While Senators whose support is constitutionally necessary for the selection of a Justice were kept in the dark, the White House actively sought the support of the religious right.

Ask your Senators to reaffirm Harriet Miers' recognition that the Constitution is the highest law in the land, not the Bible or any other religious source.  And demand that they join us in asking President Bush and his chief political advisor Karl Rove to end the special access given to James Dobson and other leaders of the religious right during the selection of Supreme Court and other judges. Send a letter to your Senators today!
