Urge Congress to override Bush's veto of health insurance for kids

Here are some talking points to help you write your letter:
  • The House and Senate recently passed a strong, bipartisan bill to reauthorize the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) -- legislation that will ensure that millions of American children have access to the medical care they need
  • Unfortunately, President Bush vetoed the renewal of SCHIP, threatening the health care of millions of American kids
  • The Senate has the 67 votes it needs to override the veto, but Democrats still need about 25 Republican votes in the House to pass SCHIP
  • With the same money we're spending to fund operations for 41 days in Iraq, we could provide health insurance for ten million kids in America for a full year.
  • In the United States, the richest country in the world, 47 million people -- or one in six Americans -- lack health insurance
  • If enough Republicans vote with the majority and override President Bush's veto, we can provide 10 million American kids with health insurance.
