Talking points:

Please feel free to use these talking points to guide your letter -- but write your letter in your own words to make it personal and even more powerful. Thanks so much for your help!

  • When you're dealing with a personal crisis -- a car accident, a burglary, a house fire, or anything else -- the last thing you want to worry about is whether your insurance company will treat you fairly.

  • Unfortunately some insurance companies are intentionally denying or delaying payment of legitimate claims. Thousands of consumers in Washington file complaints with the Office of the Insurance Commissioner every year because their legitimate claims have been unfairly denied or delayed. That's a real problem.

  • Under our current law, there is no penalty for insurance companies that do not play by the rules.

  • By voting to Approve Referendum 67 on this November's ballot here in Washington, we can hold the insurance industry more accountable by requiring that all insurance companies pay legitimate claims in a reasonable and timely manner -- and penalizing them if they illegally deny or delay payment of a legitimate claim.

  • Referendum 67 will help make sure insurance companies do the right thing. People buy insurance, pay their premiums on time, and all they ask in return is that insurance companies honor their commitment to policy holders. After all, people should get what they paid for.
